BORN WITH A SILVER SPOON IN YOUR MOUTH

The “Idiom” Definition for “Born with a silver spoon in your mouth” means you are born into a rich family.

Thinking of this definition, well I guess I would have to say this comment pertains to me!

I was born into a family with American values and taught to treat others with respect (SO, I AM RICH IN VALUES).

I was born into a family who cared for one another, cared for our friends, cared for our neighbors as well as the world around us (SO, I AM RICH IN LOVE AND RESPECT). Reach out to help others? … we lived with this as a family.

I was born into a family who said prayers before eating, saluted the American flag and said the Pledge of Allegiance proudly with a hand over my heart while looking at the American Flag, “Old Glory” every morning when the school bell rang and before our classes began (SO, I AM RICH IN HERITAGE OF WHAT THE MEANING OF LIVING IN AMERICA REALLY MEANS, OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH FOR ONE OF OUR RIGHTS, AND OUR FREEDOM OF RELIGION FOR ANOTHER).

I was born into a family with one car, one TV, one bathroom (which by the way, was on the second floor of our home) and as a family of four, we made it work, never seemed to cause a problem. I wore clothes my Mother sewed for me which in my eyes were so beautiful – I guess, because she had a job but still had time to sew a new outfit for me. We had no dishwasher, unless you count me, and I always thought we had everything. I never felt deprived in any way, I felt happy and I felt safe. This is how it was, this was normal for us. Most important, we had what we needed, each other and love of family and Country (SO, I AM RICH IN BLESSINGS).

So what happened? Somewhere along the line, some of the “riches” have been replaced with items or things and even greed. I for one know you cannot replace the love of a father who is now gone or grandparents, friends and many relatives lost through the years (SO, I AM RICH IN MEMORIES I KEEP OF THESE VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE I HAVE HAD IN MY LIFE).

If your TV breaks, car gets old, house too small….you buy a new one! I would be so happy if, instead of getting new items or things, I was given just one more minute with a person I have loved and lost. (SO, I WOULD BE RICH WITH SUCH JOY!).

So, you see dear friends, I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. WHAT? You thought I meant money or expensive items? Oh no, what I really meant was the riches of love and freedom!
What about you? Were you born with a silver spoon in your mouth? What values of importance do you place first in your life?

I know we all have had our share of hardships; some may be having them as you read my comments. But, please just remember, you are strong in life with the treasures you have been given in America; respect, caring, love and our freedom.

My silver spoon is really quite large! This is not because my mouth is so big,  but because I have so many riches of value in my life and so many blessings. What is your silver spoon in life all about? In this time of ups and downs in our Country & the World, you might be surprised to consider what your “riches” are in your life and then you too will find comfort in knowing you too WERE BORN WITH A SILVER SPOON IN YOUR MOUTH!
God Bless America!
